Troubleshooting
Common problems and what to do about them, in one list. If nothing here covers it, see the report path at the bottom of this page.
Lumina will not connect, or gets stuck connecting
Check your device has a working internet connection outside Lumina first (Wi-Fi or mobile data). If that is fine, disconnect and reconnect from the app. If it still will not connect, close and reopen the app, then try again. Restarting the device is a valid last step before reporting it.
An app I excluded is not working properly
Excluded apps are deliberately outside the VPN tunnel, so a change in how they behave is often expected, not a fault. See the split-tunnelling explainer for what exclusion actually does. If an excluded app fails in a way that looks unrelated to networking, the exclusion is unlikely to be the cause.
An excluded app has no network access at all
This usually means your device's own "Block connections without VPN" setting is turned on for Lumina. That is an Android setting (found in your device's network/VPN settings, not inside Lumina), and it blocks any traffic that is not going through the active VPN, including apps you have told Lumina to exclude. The two settings are structurally incompatible with each other: you can have app exclusions, or you can have "Block connections without VPN", but not both at once for the excluded apps. If you want specific apps to stay excluded, turn "Block connections without VPN" off for Lumina in your device's settings.
I changed an app exclusion and nothing happened
Exclusion changes do not apply automatically to an already-open connection. Reconnect (tap Reconnect now if the app shows it, or disconnect and connect again) after adding or removing an excluded app. This is expected behaviour, not a bug.
Two apps I did not expect are excluded together
Some apps on a device share the same underlying app identity (for example, different builds or components of the same product). Lumina always excludes those together; you cannot exclude one without the other. This is a platform-level constraint, not a Lumina choice.
Does Lumina filter or block sites at the DNS level?
Not yet. DNS filtering is planned but is not a live feature at launch, and this guide does not cover it further until it ships.
Something else is wrong
If none of the above covers it, email support@luminavpn.net with a short description of what happened, your Android version, and whether you have any apps excluded. See Support for what to include.
